Delta Cygni Labs Ltd, Meeting Charles Camarda NASA, March 28, 2018

Today we had a great privilege to meet NASA astronaut Dr. Charles Camarda to discuss technologies and methods that enable manned space exploration missions to Moon and Mars. Dr. Camarda is an expert in thermal structures engineering and he played a pivotal role in the┬áSTS-114 “return to flight” mission after Space Shuttle Columbia accident. The mission focused on validating new maintenance technologies and methods for solving complex problems under unpredictable conditions, such as the one causing the loss of Space Shuttle Columbia.

Today the discussion was related to the problems that Delta Cygni Labs is solving, as Dr. Camarda put it “how to live and work in space”. Off-nominal maintenance and deep repair are essential along with the insights from Dr. Camarda on how to utilize the methodologies such as Innovative Conceptual Engineering Design (ICED) to approach big problems with a garage spirit and to deliver world class results such as the STS-114 mission.
